Woman Pleads Guilty to Assault Charges
Posted 28 June 2008
Yesterday, Friday, June 27, in Jones County District Court, Wendy Sue
Sams, 39, of Anamosa pleaded guilty to willful injury causing serious
injury, assault while participating in a felony causing injury and
conspiracy to commit a forcible felony.
Sams was arrested in January and charged with attempted murder, after
police allege she repeatedly hit Jenette Gralund, 53, of Anamosa, on
the face and head.
According to local law enforcement officials, Sams waited inside
Gralund's rural Anamosa residence Jan. 7, struck her with a blunt
wooden object and attempted to suffocate Gralund with a pillow.
Sams did not enter a plea to the attempted murder charge but court
documents indicated Friday that the charge has not been dropped.
