Quilters Sought for April Quilt Show
Posted 14 February 2009
A quilt show - including a quilt
display, workshop and lecture hosted by the Fayette County Barn Quilts
- will be held Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26.
Area quilters are invited to display their works at the open show.
Quilters are encouraged to indicate their interest in the contest by
signing up at One Block Over in West Union or Lou Ann's Quilt Garden in
Oelwein.
The show opens at 9 a.m. Saturday at North Fayette High school and
closes at 7 p.m. On Sunday, April 26, the show will be open from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. Lunch will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2.
A workshop and lecture by quilt artist Debbie Bowles of Maple Island
Quilts, Minn., will be featured Saturday. Bowles will present a sewing
workshop beginning at 10 a.m., titled, "Bent Pieces." Cost includes the
pattern. Pre-registration is required. The workshop is limited to 20
participants.
Throughout the day, visitors are invited to view a bed turning at
either 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., attend "Quilter Moments," presented by
women of the West Union United Methodist Church describing some of
their charity projects at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and listen to
quilter Kari Burns of Decorah speak on "Care of Quilts" at 2:30 and
4:30 p.m.
Debbie Bowles' evening lecture Saturday, at 7 p.m., is titled, "It
Doesn't Always Have to Match." The lecture, demo and trunk show will
offer ideas and examples in taking small (or larger) risks in one's
quiltmaking, from fabric to design. Cost of the lecture is $5.
Pre-registration is not necessary.
Sunday's show opens at 10 a.m. Topics of mini workshops are:
author Karen Thalacker, speaking on Gigi's latest knitting adventures,
at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.; a bed turning at 11:30 a.m. and the
Methodist Church women's presentation at 1:30 p.m.
There will also be vendors from area quilt and craft shops at the show
both days.
