UIU
Receives
Two Acknowledgments as a Top Military-Friendly University
Posted 14 January
2010
Upper Iowa University has again been recognized for its commitment to
U.S. military service personnel and veterans by being named to Military
Advanced Education (MAE) magazine’s “3rd Annual Guide to
Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities” and the 2010 list for
top-military friendly schools published by G.I. Jobs Magazine.
The MAE guide is a special section in the November/December 2009 issue
of its magazine that lists those colleges and universities across the
nation that best serve military service members, veterans, and their
spouses and dependants. Upper Iowa was also given special recognition
for especially notable veteran support programs.
“To be recognized by these two top publications that are geared towards
educating the men and women dedicated to serving our country now and in
the past is indeed an honor,” said Dr. Alan G. Walker, UIU president.
“To be able to assist these men and women and their families with their
educational needs and to help them achieve the ultimate goal of earning
a college degree is both rewarding and heartwarming.”
According to Dr. Bill Duffy, senior vice president for Academic
Extension, Upper Iowa is especially proud of the level of service it is
able to offer to military service members and their families. Besides
being a member of the Post 9/11 GI Bill’s Yellow Ribbon Program, UIU
also works closely with Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, GoArmyEd,
the Navy College Program Distance Learning Program, the Army National
Guard Education Support Program, the Coast Guard Institute, and the Air
Force AU ABC program. UIU offers credit for military training, military
spouse scholarship opportunities, and tuition discounts for the Total
Military Family.
Upper Iowa University is a private, not-for-profit university providing
undergraduate and graduate degree programs through an award-winning
online program, via independent study, at 15 center locations
throughout the U.S., including military bases, at its residential
campus in Fayette, and through International centers in Hong Kong,
Singapore, and Malaysia. Upper Iowa University is accredited by The
Higher Learning Commission, a member of the North Central Association.
